Bhavana: the feeling-tone that permeates a space
During my yoga teacher training, I learned about the sanskrit term bhavana—the feeling-tone, mood, or intention that infuses a class. It's the underlying energy or quality you're cultivating through your teaching.
I find this concept extends far beyond the yoga studio. Every gathering, every designed space, every interaction has its bhavana.
What are some tools to affect bhavana during a yoga class?
music selection, language and metaphors, pace of instruction, lighting, your own presence, breathwork, specific pose choices, and how you open/close the class.
